2017/18 Premier League Wrap-up

The English Premier League came to an end today with a bit of a lack luster Championship Sunday after almost all the drama was decided already. Swansea had an outside shot of staying up and Chelsea had even longer odds of securing a top four spot. Outside of that Manchester City had wrapped up the title weeks ago and West Brom and Stoke City were already relegated coming into Sunday. The Final Premier League Standings are as follows.

  1. Manchester City (Champions League)
  2. Manchester United (Champions League)
  3. Tottenham Hotspur (Champions League)
  4. Liverpool (Champions League)
  5. Chelsea (Europa League)
  6. Arsenal (Europa League)
  7. Burnley (Europa League)
  8. Everton
  9. Leicester City
  10. Newcastle United
  11. Crystal Palace
  12. AFC Bournemouth
  13. West Ham United

  19. Stoke City (Relegated)
  20. West Bromwich Albion (Relegated)

Some big notes from the season are…

  • Manchester City set the goals and points record for a single season
  • All 3 promoted teams stay up (Brighton, Newcastle, Huddersfield)
  • The Big 6 all finish in the Top 6
  • Burnley will be playing in Europe next season
  • Mo Salah broke the 38 game goals record and wins the golden boot
  • Harry Kane has appealed to claim all Spurs goals this season
  • De Gea wins the golden glove award for the first time

End of Season Grades: Top 7

Manchester City: A+ – Winning the league by a record margin and breaking countless records along the way is worthy of only an A+

Manchester United: B – No one is more scrutinized than Man U but they progressed forward this season and finished second in the league

Tottenham Hotspur: B+ – Continuing to grow their young talent and remaining a threat all season long

Liverpool: B – If I were counting their success in Europe this would easily be an A but in the league they were still very solid after bringing in Virgil Van Dyke

Chelsea: C – A very disappointing season for the defending champions. They need some midfield and attacking help

Arsenal: C- – All the fan fair around Arsene Wenger leaving the last month has put a bit of a band aid and an underwhelming season

Burnley: A+ – For a club the size of Burnley and with the low payroll they have to secure a Europa League spot is amazing.
